the weekly love list – edition 1

I would like to introduce my weekly love list, a list of things that I’m loving this week. It could be an outfit, a tv show, a restaurant, a new piece of tech, or a food, anything. Just things that I love and recommend.

office attire

I am going on holidays next week, so I am trying to wear the clothes that I won’t be packing, so I can get organised early. I have an enormous wardrobe, so this task isn’t as difficult as it sounds.

I had to go into the office on Monday and wanted to wear something that was comfortable and office appropriate. A pair of jeans, white t-shirt, a blazer and loafers is one of my favourite combinations. It’s stylish, it’s comfortable, and it’s easy. Best of all, all of these pieces are incredibly affordable. But it’s a total coincidence that two of these pieces are named C/Karlie.

Carlie Blazer – Atmos&Here – Blazers are always a great way to smarten up an outfit. This blazer is lightweight, which is perfect for the unpredictable Spring weather, and looks incredibly professional with the check pattern.

Trixy Loafers – Verali (no longer available) – These Verali loafers have been a staple in my wardrobe for years. Their comfort level isn’t super high, but they’re flat, they’re smart, and do the job if your job is predominantly seated.

Karlie Slim Fit Jeans – Target – I love these jeans so much, I have bought multiple pairs in multiple sizes. There’s something about the Target jeans that just fit really well, and for under $40, they’re a real bargain.

Say More with Dr? Sheila podcast

I have been a fan of Amy Poehler’s since I knew who Amy Poehler was. Like most people, I was introduced to her through her memorable antics on Saturday Night Live back in the early 2000s, and the space in my heart for her only grew larger with the discovery of Leslie Knope and Parks & Recreation. And now with her latest offering Say More with Dr? Sheila, my love for her continues. Say More is an improvised podcast, hosted by self-proclaimed world renowned couples therapist Dr? Sheila (the question mark is very important, for legal reasons), who sits down with a couple and discusses their issues. The podcast features an impressive array of well known improv comics, including June Diane Raphael, Maya Rudolph, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, and even Poehler’s longtime collaborator Tina Fey, just to name a few. You know you’re in for a good time when the episode starts with a monologue that includes line “In the world of feelings, there are winners and losers, and somebody has to be the judge.” And the icing on the cake is the theme song, sung by Poehler, which ends with the question “What’s wrong with you?”

If you’re a fan of non-cringe improv comedy, this is for you. It currently has a rating of 4.9 on Apple Podcasts, and the episodes are less than 30 minutes long, you really can’t go wrong with this one. Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Industrial Espresso Bar Brookvale

Early on a mid week morning, I found myself trying to kill some time while I waited for my car to be serviced. This is when I stumbled across Industrial Espresso Bar, hidden in the industrial area of Old Pittwater Road in Brookvale. What a little gem! Industrial Espresso opened in mid 2015, and seems to have a loyal local following. For a Tuesday morning, it was quite busy. They specialise in your typical cafe foods, with a cabinet full of well presented quick snacks like croissants and wraps, and provide a wide range of hot and cold drinks.

I had Harry with me, and I understand that not everyone wants dogs strutting through their cafes, but I was warmly welcomed to come in and check out the menu. I ordered the Smashed Avocado with lemon and dukkah on sourdough rye, with a poached egg, and was very pleased with my selection. The avocado was zesty and fresh, the poached egg was cooked beautifully with a lovely runny yolk, and the bread was crusty, but not scratchy.

Stylebook app.

This app isn’t a new discovery for me, but it would be my most used app in my phone. I absolutely love this and talk about this all the time. In fact, people will ask me how my ‘clothes app’ is going. But to be clear, I didn’t create this, although I wish I had.

Stylebook is your ultimate wardrobe assistant. It is an app of many functions. You can keep an inventory of your entire wardrobe, create looks with new and existing pieces without leaving your couch, create packing lists, do analysis of your wardrobe and wearing habits, and even get advice on outfit ideas and wardrobe organisation.

I have been using this app for nearly two years now and use this every day. I like to track my outfits each day, and look at the my stats. It has made me very conscious of my love for white tshirts and gym leggings, and has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and try pants with a zipper when working from home. There is some labour involved to get the most out of this app. You do need to manually add every article of clothing and accessory (which took me a week to complete), but once it’s set up, you just add your clothes as you buy them, and tracking their usage only takes 30 seconds.

Stylebook is available in the iOS App Store, not available for Android

Chuckit! Ball Ultra Squeaker

Now, Harry is the most discerning gentleman when it comes to his likes and dislikes, and the Chuckit Ball is right at the top of his list of likes. And when we’re at the park, this ball is very popular with the other dogs too, considering how often it gets stolen. Being a dog that can’t pass up a game of fetch, Harry will generally be happy with any ball, but he definitely prefers the Chuckit Ball Ultra Squeaker. It is made of a really nice, soft, durable material that isn’t going to damage his teeth the way tennis balls can, and it’s a great size for him to carry in his mouth. And for added attraction, as the name would suggest, there is a squeaker in the centre, to keep him engaged. Dog experts also recommend this ball, being the ball of choice at Harry’s daycare centre.
