Summer has hit Sydney, and boy, has she made her presence know! We’ve had some sweltering weather over the last few weeks, so dressing for the conditions has been so vital for comfort.
Summer dressing is a vibe! It’s a time to feel like you’re on a holiday, even if you don’t leave your home. Cool, natural, breathable fabrics in bright and neutral colours are at the top of my list. Clothes that flow, nothing too tight, pieces that can easily transition from the park to the bar, from day to night.
While keeping comfortably cool in your clothes is crucial, being sun smart if also an important consideration. It’s not often that you can find clothing with an SPF rating, unless you’re shopping at the Cancer Council or some surf wear brands. A good rule of thumb is to look for fabrics with a tight weave, that don’t stretch. That tight weave will keep the UV rays off your skin and keep you safe from sun damage.
This is not my entire summer wardrobe, but you could happily incorporate these pieces into a capsule wardrobe for the season. They all are of a similar colour story, they can all be worn together. The only thing missing is a light blazer, but I am yet to find one that I love for summer.
Here are my favourite wardrobe essentials that I will be wearing to stay stylish this summer.
tops
This Camixa sleeveless linen shirt is so light, but the structure still allows it to sit beautifully. So versatile, it can be paired with just about any bottom. Made of 100% French linen.
I have written about this shirt before and my love for the Camixa Lete Linen shirt has only increased. A great cover up, as well as stand alone shirt. Made of 100% French linen.
I’m not always the biggest fan of Cotton On, but I really like the cut of this top. I wear this under a jumpsuit or a linen shirt. The fabric is a polyester/elastase mix.
bottoms
Witchery shorts are a piece I have been an avid wearer of for years, and this season’s Linen shorts meet their usual standard. The cut and fit is flattering and comfortable, and made of 100% linen.
These Sailer Pants are amazing for lounging. They are the perfect length for people of all heights and their 98% cotton composition is breathable and airy.
To round out the bottoms, a bright print cotton/linen skirt can be dressed up or down with ease. This piece can be paired with flats or heels.
one pieces
When it comes to summer dresses, it doesn’t get much more versatile than this. This broderie design is the epitome of ladylike, summer style. Breezy and light, you could wear this for brunch, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner with a myriad of crowds. Made of 100% cotton.
Jumpsuits can be tricky, but this Amelius offering is comfortable and low maintenance. The buttons at the front on this linen jumpsuit are brilliant for quickly slipping on and off. The sizing for this brand runs small, so size up for this one.
shoes
I have already professed my love for these Jane Debster wedges many times. Comfort in every element, stylish, easy, I don’t know what else to say about these leather espadrilles. My favourite shoes of the year.
If you had told me that I would be a Birkenstock wearer 10 years ago, I would have laughed in your face. But thanks to the juggernaut that was the Barbie movie, they are trending once again. These are as comfortable as you could imagine, but are probably best worn indoors, no beach going in these.
accessories
sunglasses
Colour framed sunglasses are my absolute favourite for summer. Light and fun, the Air Heart sunglasses come in 10 colours, but my favourite are the caramel (pictured above)
bag
This Belle & Bloom leather camera bag is the absolute perfect size for summer. It fits a phone, card wallet, keys, sunglasses, dog treats, lip gloss, what more could you want?
hat
And to finish the outfit off, we have the Arms of Eve Nino Sunhat. The natural material is light and easy to wear. Leave those felt fedoras for transitional months.
