marooned at work

This outfit has such a rich, warm energy. The deep berry trousers create a beautiful foundation, and the wide leg gives the whole silhouette a relaxed, confident flow. Paired with the patterned top, the colours echo each other in a way that feels harmonious without being matchy‑matchy. It’s bold but still grounded, and the print adds just the right amount of personality.

What makes it especially good is how wearable it is. The top has that slightly vintage, feminine vibe, and the trousers balance it with structure and depth. The light shoes keep the outfit from feeling heavy and add a soft contrast that ties everything together. It’s the kind of outfit that feels expressive but still comfortable, perfect for those in‑between weather days when you want something easy that still looks like you put thought into it.

blouse

Whistles “Lilly Printed Pocket Blouse” in pink

I bought this blouse about 10 years ago because I wanted a little more yellow in my wardrobe. The print is feminine and colourful, but not overwhelming. The structure of this shirt is also good, in that it can be buttoned all the way up or left open slightly. But my favourite thing about this shirt is how soft the silk is. It’s the perfect office piece.

Worth it? This was a pricey purchase but it’s something I will keep forever. This shirt is no longer available, but I’ve linked something similar below.

Cost per wear: $270 x 5 wears = $54.00

Atmos&Here “Chelsea Wide Leg Pants” in dark berry

I love a wide leg pant. There’s something fun and glamourous about them. But also, very comfortable. These pants have a nice thick fabric and move beautifully as you walk. There’s flattering darting in the front to create some interesting detail.

Worth it? Yes, in fact, I have these in a few colours. Love them.

Cost per wear: $89.99 x 7 wears = $12.85

shoes

Novo “Early Flats” in Cream

I bought these a few years ago and have barely worn them. But when I go to get rid of them, I find a reason to keep them. But after wearing them for a few days, I have decided it’s time to say goodbye. I was pretty disappointed with these. These have a rubbery, plasticky feel to them and offer very little structure. The toes turn up slightly, which is a weird look. I would spend a little more on a better-quality pair.

Worth it? Nope, I wouldn’t repurchase these. They’re cheap and they feel cheap. If you’re looking for something like this, click the link below for similar styles.

styling notes

  • Gold pieces work beautifully with the warm maroon and yellow tones — think small hoops, a simple chain, or a couple of stacked rings.
  • A soft, neutral cardigan would complement the colours without competing with the print.
  • A lighter toned bag, in anything from a woven material to glove leather would work.
  • I always prefer a lighter toned shoe, but something darker (like a brown loafer) would ground the outfit, while lighter shoes keep it airy and soft.
