pumpkin spice latte

category: drinks

I personally am not a coffee drinker, but there’s something about pumpkin spice lattes that I can’t pass up. They really are more of an American delicacy, so if I happen to be in the USA over fall time, I will definitely grab one. So I tried to make my own version at home.

I like my pumpkin spice lattes to be almost like a sweet pumpkin soup. A strong pumpkin flavour, sweetened with the richness of maple syrup and spiced up with cinnamon and ginger. All topped with a squirt of whipped cream. Is there anything more autumnally decadent?!

makes 4

Ingredients

  • 2 shots of espresso
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • whipped cream to serve

Method

  1. Brew the espresso and divide between 2 coffee cups
  2. Warm the milk in a saucepan and add the pumpkin, maple syrup, salt, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Combine well so that the milk is smooth. Taste and add any sweetness or spice to your liking.
  3. Pour the spiced pumpkin milk into the two coffee cups.
  4. Serve immediately with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
